Microsoft Brings its Defender Antivirus Software into MacOS

Microsoft is introducing its antivirus application-Windows Defender into the Mac Operating System today. As a result, the highly reputed software company is changing the name of the antivirus to “Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP)” from “Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP)”. Microsoft has newly created a dedicated ATP client for the Mac operating system, and it offers complete protection against virus and threats as well as the usual ability to perform quick scans.

A limitedPreview will be made available for businesses to test the antivirus in environments that have a mixture of both Mac and Windows PCs. The company is using the AutoUpdate software on mac to keep the client up-to-date, and it promises to be available on devices running macOS Mojave, macOS Sierra or macOS High Sierra.

As Advanced Threat Protection is limited to businesses, it’s not yet known if Microsoft is planning to bring the consumer version of MicrosoftDefender over to the MacOS. Currently, Defender is built into the Windows 10 Operating System, thereby, providing antivirus protection by default on the Windows version. Either way, Microsoft is currently offering a limited preview to Microsoft Defender ATP customers.
