Microsoft is Terminating Windows 7 Support

Microsoft has plans to push notifications to every Windows 7 users to warn them about the upcoming termination of support. Microsoft is reportedly stopping support for Windows 7 on 14th January, 2020 and warning notifications will start coming in from next month for those customers still using the OS version. The end of support date means that Windows 7, as well as Microsoft Office 2010, will no longer receive any security update, and the company desires for its consumers to upgrade to Windows 10 operating system and Office 365.

The warning notification will not specifically state that customers should upgrade to Windows 10, but it will give warning of support termination for windows 7 and provide a link to a site that will encourage consumers to move to Windows 10 or buy a more modern PC.

“Beginning next month, if you are a Windows 7 customer, you can expect to see a notification appear on your Windows 7 PC,” said Matt Barlow, CVP of Windows. “This is a courtesy reminder that you can expect to see a handful of times in 2019.”

Earlier this year, Microsoft Windows 10 won windows 7 in market share, making  the latest MS operating system run in about 800 million devices, It is edging really closer to the company’s goal of having the windows 10 installed on 1 billion devices, and this cycle of Windows 7 upgrade is bound to eventually help the company achieve that goal, even though it is a bit later than expected.
