Fake Hindu monk takes advantage of people’s desperation to defraud

A fake Hindu
monk, Identified as Rapheal Ekechi aka Raghdra Anandra, who operates a fake
Hindu Ancient Monk Temple in Alagbado area of Lagos State, where he has been
defrauding people of their hard-earned money has been arrested by operatives
of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team in Ogun state for
swindling a second-hand clothing trader, Emmanuel Ekpe of N167,000.

The 50 year old fake magician, admitted
to being a fraudster when interrogated, saying he became a fraud when he lost
all his money and goods worth N3m that was seized by Customs operatives on his
way back from Accra, Ghana. The frustration of not finding any means to get
money to continue his Business led him into the Fraudster he became. He said, “I
found out that some Nigerians are desperate to get rich quickly and I decided
to use what I have to get what I want”, surfing the internet where he learned
about mysticism and adopted the Indian Hindu worship as a means to defraud his
victim.

He charges
N7,700 for consultation and had a file opened for each client. N500,000 for
people seeking spiritual powers, N2m for those who wish to see his master and
N1m for people who wants to win contracts. He is from Izza in Ebonyi state and
he has four children.

The 36-year
old trader had approached the monk with a complaint that his business wasn’t
booming and needed a solution. However, he was asked to pay the sum of N167,000
but he made a deposit of N57,000 promising to pay the balance in a month time. Unfortunately
for him the prayers, sacrifices and even the substances he was given never
worked and he started demanding a refund for his money but all he got was a
threat from the monk asking him to run away in order to avoid the wrath of the
mystic gods.

However,
Ekpe’s case was different, he was never deterred by the monk’s threats as he
brought the Police from IRT to arrest the fake monk. He is pleading for forgiveness and promising never to defraud anyone again.
