How to use Google Chrome Remote Desktop to take control of another machine

You got a new computer for your parents, grandparents, or other family members, set it up, and showed them all of its cool new features. Knowing that you’ve brought them great joy, you’ve returned home. You are aware, though, that the narrative is not over.
The dreaded call asking for assistance won’t be long in coming. “I can’t seem to find the email draft I began! “Why am I unable to join the Zoom conference?” “My keyboard, mouse, and speaker aren’t functioning!” They’re going to ask you to walk them through a repair, which will probably take at least a few hours off of your day (depending on how computer adept they are).
Nevertheless, there is a fix.
If you and your afflicted relative both use Chrome (or have a Chromebook), you can quickly take temporary control of their computer and either cure the problem or instruct them on how to do it using Google’s Chrome Remote Desktop program.
There are distinct applications for iOS and Android in addition to being accessible on PCs, Macs, Linux devices, and Chromebooks.
Install Chrome Remote Desktop on your computer.
If you haven’t already downloaded the Remote Desktop program, you’ll need to do so before you can assist a friend or member of your family who is less tech-savvy.

You’ll see a page with two boxes, the first of which is named (again). Share my screen, assuming you haven’t yet installed the program.
Click the blue download icon that appears on this one.

Your destination will be the Chrome Web Shop.
Click on the blue “Add to Chrome” icon that will appear.

If you wish to add the extension, a pop-up will ask for your approval.
Step 6: You’ll then have a new extension on your Chrome browser, whether you use a Windows computer or a Chromebook. You’ll need to install real software if you have a Mac; simply adhere.
To control another machine, use Google Chrome Remote Desktop.
Things get much easier once the software is installed on both your computer and the one you need to operate. Imagine that you get a call from a friend or family member asking for assistance, and you decide that the best course of action is to take control of their computer in order to repair the problem. Here is the next step.
Step 1: Choose to Share my screen by going to remotedesktop.google.com (or by clicking the extension icon in your browser).
Tell the other individual to follow suit.
Step 2: There are two boxes there:
Connect to another computer and share this screen.
The button labeled “Generate Code” on this screen will say “Share.” This button has to be clicked by the person whose computer will be shared (let’s pretend it’s your friend).
Step 3: You’ll see a 12-digit number appear.
Your friend has five minutes to give you the number over the phone or by SMS.
Step 4: You will click the “Connect to another computer” box and enter the number within those same five minutes.

A pop-up message confirming your friend’s desire to share the screen with you will display (again, where it will appear depends on the OS).
They ought to select Share.

After that, you will be able to take control since you can view their complete screen in your Chrome tab.
The other person never loses control, but you can help them set up Skype or recover the email they mistakenly erased by using your computer, for example.
There will always be a little notification at the bottom of the screen alerting you and the other user that the screen is shared.
Also, a “timeout” notice will appear on the client system after a while, which must be clicked to prevent connection loss.
Although it might be inconvenient if you’re in for a long flight, this is a safety feature.
There is sort of, a workaround for it.
Step 1: You’ll see a menu on the main remote access page; select Remote Access from the menu.
Step 2: When asked to set up remote access, choose Switch on.
Step 3: Give your computer a name.
(Whatever you like is OK.)
Step 4: A six-digit PIN will be required from you as security.
You may then use Remote Desktop from another computer by going to Remote Access, selecting the system from the list of your systems, clicking on it, and entering the PIN when you’ve finished. Timeouts won’t be used. There is one significant requirement, though: your Google account must be the same on all platforms.
Make it portable.
You may utilize the Remote Access feature of Chrome Remote Desktop on mobile devices (It does not let you use the remote support option.)Be aware that you will need to scroll around the display on your phone in order to see the complete client screen; this might make things a little challenging.
And finally, there are more remote access programs outside Chrome Remote Desktop. For instance, Macs have a screen-sharing function, while Windows has its own Remote Desktop application. There are plenty of other applications available. Yet with Chrome Remote Desktop, it’s quite easy for individuals to share displays across platforms with minimal work.
