WhatsApp Expanding Creative Possibilities: Introducing Built-in Sticker Creation Tool
|WhatsApp, the messaging platform owned by Meta, is currently testing a new sticker-maker tool that allows users to create stickers directly within the app. This feature aims to eliminate the need for relying on third-party applications for sticker creation. The recently released iOS beta update, version 23.10.0.74, includes this built-in sticker maker tool.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, users will find a “New Sticker” option in the chat share sheet of a specific conversation. This option leverages iOS 16’s API, which enables users to extract a subject from an image and copy-paste it elsewhere. The same functionality will be utilized to create WhatsApp stickers. Additionally, users will have access to editing tools such as background removal, allowing them to craft personalized stickers. A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo showcases the feature in action.
The sticker maker tool is currently undergoing testing for WhatsApp’s iOS version, but there are indications that it may be introduced for Android users as well. It’s worth noting that a similar functionality already exists for WhatsApp’s web and desktop versions. Although there are numerous sticker packs available for WhatsApp’s app versions, the ability to create custom stickers is still not supported.
At present, there is no official information on when the sticker maker tool will be made available to users. However, considering its testing phase, it is expected to be announced in the near future.
In addition to the sticker maker tool, WhatsApp is also testing a design overhaul for its Android version, drawing inspiration from its iOS counterpart. This revamp includes relocating the navigation bar from the top to the bottom of the interface and introducing a new context message menu. The drop-down menu will provide options such as Delete, Forward, Reply, Keep, and Info for easier access and management of messages.
