Leaks Suggest Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 to Feature Improved Displays, Cameras, and More
|According to reports, Samsung is planning to launch its Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 foldable phones earlier than expected this year. These devices may be revealed in a late July launch event and available in stores shortly after. This could be Samsung’s response to the anticipated release of Google Pixel Fold, which is expected to be unveiled at the I/O 2023 conference in a few weeks.
It’s not uncommon for Galaxy flagship devices to leak extensively well before Samsung’s official announcement events. Therefore, it’s not surprising that the specs and prices of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 have already surfaced in late April. However, for fans of Samsung’s foldable phones, these leaks may offer a lot to be excited about.
According to recent leaks, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to retain a familiar design, with a 7.6-inch foldable display and a 6.2-inch external display. Both displays are expected to have a 120Hz AMOLED screen, which is brighter than the previous models. The external display is said to have Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while the foldable screen should be more durable than its predecessors.
The new Galaxy Z Fold 5 may feature some design improvements, including a smaller screen gap due to a new hinge design and a less noticeable crease. The phone is also expected to be IPX8 water-resistant, and thinner and lighter than its predecessor.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is likely to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor, which is the same chip used in the Galaxy S23 series. The phone may come with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and storage options of 256GB/512GB/1TB UFS 4.0.
On the camera front, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 may have a triple-lens setup at the back with 50-, 12-, and 10-megapixel lenses. The camera is expected to offer improved video recording up to 8K 30fps. The under-display camera is also expected to get some improvements, although details are not available.
Finally, the leaks mention that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 may have improvements in its vibration motor, speakers, and S Pen support. However, all these upgrades will come at a price, and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to be expensive, with the base model starting at $1,799.
The leaked specifications for the Samsung Galaxy Flip 5 are similar to those for the Fold 5, with a few differences in size, RAM, and storage options. The Flip 5 will have a 6.7-inch 120Hz foldable display and a 3.4-inch external screen, which is an improvement over the Flip 4’s external display.
In terms of memory and storage, the Flip 5 is expected to feature 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and two UFS 4.0 storage options of 256GB and 512 GB. However, the $999 model may come with 128GB UFS 3.1 flash memory, which is not as fast as UFS 4.0.
While nothing has been officially confirmed by Samsung, most of the rumors related to Galaxy devices have turned out to be accurate in the past. Therefore, there is a high probability that the leaked specifications for the Galaxy Flip 5 will be accurate as well.
