Federal Gov’t pays N22.5bn promotion arrears to MDAs
|As part of the effort to fulfill the promise made last year, the Federal Government of Nigeria has paid N22.5 billion to workers in Ministries, Department and Agencies, MDAs, to settle the backlog of promotion arrears.
Mrs. Kemi Adeosun who is the Minister of Finance made this disclosure in a tweet, yesterday, stating that she was pleased with this achievement and that more arrear-settlements were yet to come.
She said: “I’m happy to announce that the Federal Government has so far paid N22.5 billion to the staff of more than 260 MDAs to fulfill our promise to settle the backlog of promotion arrears, covering 2011 to 2016, owed federal civil servants.
“The N22.5 billion already paid is part of the N35 billion released for that purpose. Another batch of 68 MDAs have undergone verification, and are now in line to receive their arrears, totaling N8.249 billion. President Muhammedu Buhari is fully committed to the welfare of all our civil servants.”
The payment was in fulfillment of the promise by FG last year to commence the payment of salary arrears, promotion arrears and other entitlement of civil servants in the country.
The promise to pay these backlogs was part of the four-point agreement reached between the government and Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria to avert the strike the union had proposed to embark on.
