Former PDP’s NPS Showed Up in Court in An Ambulance and on Stretcher

Chief Olisa Metuh who was the National Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Monday, showed up at the Federal High Court in an ambulance and on a stretcher.

Earlier on His lawyer, Emeka Etiaba, had told the court during last month’s court appearance that Metuh was on admission at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital and could not appear in court.

But the Justice Okon Abang had issued a threat that Metuh appears in court today or be arrested. 

Olisa Metuh who has been receiving treatment at the hospital, however, arrived the court in the hospital’s ambulance and on a stretcher.

Chief Olisa Metuh is standing trial over allegations of receiving N400 million from the former National Security Adviser, retired Col. Sambo Dasuki and also money laundering charges involving $2 billion.

Lead counsel to Chief Olisa Metuh, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, had informed the court that all attempts to persuade Metuh’s doctor to give a time-frame within which Chief Metuh could be fit for trial proved abortive. He therefore asked the court to give Chief Metuh at least one month adjournment so as to enable him get fit and continue with his trial.

However, in his ruling, Justice Abang, after seeing Chief Metuh arrive the court in such manner, said he has seen that the former PDP spokesman in a state in which he cannot continue with the trial “on account of the condition I have seen him in the courtroom.” Justice Abang therefore adjourned the case till March 14, 15 and 16, as pleaded by his counsel.
