When to tell an adopted child the truth.
|The vast popularity of people adopting a child is increasing
by the day. Although, adopting a child is not an easy job no matter the
circumstances that led to it. Some parents take this decision as it is a thing
of joy to them and the adopted child. A legal custodian/guardian who is
responsible is allowed the right to adopt a child.
Reason people adopt: there are so many reasons as to why a
lot of people see adopting as a necessary option.
Couples take this decision when
it’s been confirmed they can’t have children medically, the next thing that
comes to mind There
are singles that don’t wish to get married but love to have a child. And in
this regard its either they get pregnant/impregnate or, they resort to adopting
a child. But the question now is when is the best time to disclose such a big
secret?
I would say there is never the best time to tell, the reason is that
there are some occurrences that will lead to the disclosure of this big secret.
In most cases, the departure of either the parent will reveal the true identity
of the child.
Let’s
take for example, in a recent article, a year and some month old child was adopted,
nurtured and taken care of by his adopted parents until he graduated from the
university. When told about his true identity, he felt devastated and left the house
in anger with a vow to locate his real parents but how will he find them? Point
is, the main purpose of adopting is to make them feel the love their biological
parents couldn’t give to them then why spoil the joy, and love they have for
you by spilling the beans? It’s not a bad idea to disclose this big secret but, one must be careful
not to lose the child’s love and trust.
when you show them love it will be very difficult to believe that you are not their biological parents but when you start maltreating them even without being told, they will have the feeling that you are not their parent by birth.
