President Buhari says “I won’t go for a third presidential term”, assures Nigerians

President Muhammad Buhari has assured the public that he won’t be going for third term in office or make any constitutional amendment to achieve it.

He said he doesn’t want to be remembered as such a president.

The statement quotes, “The presidency wishes to correct internet-based gossip and un-informed media commentary regarding presidential term limits, given credence by so-called support groups, staging street demonstrations asking President Muhammadu Bihari to do a third term.”

The President further made a statement of his own in quote, “It is important to note that there was a past attempt to change the constitution to allow for the then incumbent president to stand for a third term. That attempt was wrong, unconstitutional and rightly rebuffed. No such attempt will happen under this president.”

The statement was issued on nation’s Independence Day by Garba Shehu (Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity)
