Canon Launches EOS R100 and RF Mount Pancake Lens in India

Canon has unveiled its latest offerings in India with the introduction of the EOS R100 mirrorless camera and the RF 28mm F2.8 STM lens. Positioned as Canon’s most compact, lightweight, and affordable EOS R system, these products bring a range of impressive features. Here’s a closer look at each of them.

The Canon EOS R100 combines portability and power, weighing just 356 grams while delivering full-frame capabilities. Equipped with a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 8 processor, this camera excels at capturing stunning stills and video footage with exceptional detail. Its built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF) measuring 0.39 inches ensures clear shots even in challenging lighting conditions, while the textured grip provides stability during shoots.

One of the standout features of the EOS R100 is its rapid and precise autofocus, which enables capturing sharp and clear images of moving subjects and people. The camera incorporates Eye and Face Detection technology for enhanced accuracy. Additionally, the inclusion of Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and a flash allows for well-lit shots, even in low-light environments.

These features make the Canon EOS R100 an excellent choice for photographers and videographers seeking a compact yet powerful camera that excels in various shooting conditions.

The EOS R100 comes equipped with a unique feature called Hybrid Auto mode, making it ideal for beginner videographers. This mode allows you to transform your captured images and clips from a day into a seamless movie. By activating the 4K Timelapse Video mode, the camera automatically takes shots of a scene at predetermined intervals and stitches them together, preserving all the details and quality. Other notable video features include 4K video shooting at 120p, Eye Detection AF, and Movie Digital IS function. The camera supports a maximum recording time of 29 minutes and 59 seconds for Normal movies and 7 minutes and 29 seconds for High Frame Rate movies.

Moreover, the EOS R100 offers convenient connectivity options. It supports the dedicated Canon Camera Connect app for smartphones, allowing for easy sharing and control. The camera also features an SD card slot, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi support, further enhancing its connectivity capabilities. In addition to standard DSLR and mirrorless camera controls, the Creative Assist mode enables adjustments to brightness, saturation, and various creative filters.

Now let’s shift our focus to the Canon RF Mount Pancake Lens. The RF28mm f/2.8 STM lens is a standout in the industry, boasting three large-diameter plastic-molded aspherical layouts to deliver clear image quality. Compatible with both full-frame and APS-C cameras, this lightweight and compact lens weighs only 120 grams and measures 2.5cm in length when retracted. Its flat “pancake” design allows for convenient leaving-on-camera usage.

With an impressive f/2.8 aperture, this lens offers the versatility of capturing beautiful bokeh and fast-motion handheld shots, particularly on full-frame cameras. It excels in low-light conditions as well. The 28mm focal length enables the capture of a wide range of scenes, making it suitable for perspectives, portraits, cityscapes, and landscapes with a broader view. It also allows for creative portrait shots where the subject appears smaller within the frame. Pairing this lens with cameras like the EOS R8 and EOS R6 Mark II enhances its capabilities in capturing stunning cityscapes, landscapes, and more. When used with APS-C cameras such as the EOS R50 and the EOS R7, the RF28mm f/2.8 STM lens provides a standard viewpoint, delivering a natural perspective equivalent to that of a 45mm lens on a full-frame camera. This makes it well-suited for capturing half-body portraits and long-distance shots when paired with the EOS R100 camera. With this combination, you can achieve pleasing compositions and maintain the desired subject framing, whether you’re shooting portraits or capturing subjects from a distance.
