Kraven the Hunter Unleashes R-Rated Carnage in Riveting Trailer for the SSU
|After the disappointing reception and performance of Morbius, Sony is hoping to revitalize its success with another Spider-Man villain. Sony Pictures has recently unveiled the initial trailer for Kraven the Hunter, featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson (known for Avengers: Age of Ultron and Bullet Train) as the lead character. While the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU) has generally taken a darker and more intense tone compared to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), this film marks the first foray into an R-rated territory within the SSU lineup.
Similar to Venom and Morbius, Kraven the Hunter will delve into the origins of another prominent Spider-Man villain from Marvel Comics. The extensive trailer, however, appears to reveal significant plot points, including the abandonment of Sergei Kravinoff (portrayed by Russell Crowe) by his father after being attacked by a lion during a big game hunting excursion.
Despite the ordeal, Sergei survives, and a drop of the lion’s blood enters his bloodstream, granting him animal-like abilities and enhanced strength, enabling him to communicate with wildlife. The Kraven trailer emphasizes the movie’s R-rated nature.
In addition to Kraven, the film will introduce other adversaries such as Chameleon (Kraven’s half-brother and technically Spider-Man’s first-ever foe), Rhino, and Calypso.
Directed by J.C. Chandor (known for Triple Frontier) and written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway (credited for Iron Man), and Richard Wenk (known for The Equalizer), Kraven the Hunter boasts a cast including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Russell Crowe, Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, and Christopher Abbott. Barring any unforeseen setbacks, Kraven is slated to hit theaters on October 6, 2023.
