Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Set to Be One of the Longest Animated Films Ever Made

The creators of the upcoming sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse seem to have a lot in store for fans. As per information available on the website of AMC Theatres, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is said to have a runtime of two hours and 16 minutes. Should this information hold true, it would make the sequel one of the lengthiest animated films ever made.

Most animated films are geared toward children and are therefore usually kept short to maintain their attention span. For instance, the Super Mario Bros. Movie was just an hour and 32 minutes long. However, with the success of the first film, Sony is clearly aware of its audience and is giving the writers – Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham – ample time to tell the story in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

According to the current information available on the film’s runtime on the AMC Theatres website, the sequel will be two hours and 16 minutes long, making it one of the longest animated films ever made. If this information holds true, it would place the movie as the 22nd longest animated film of all time, tied with four other 136-minute-long films from Japan and the United States.

The movie’s synopsis reads, “Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.”
