XO, Kitty: The Next Chapter – Netflix’s Unforgettable Spinoff from an Iconic Movie Franchise

Hey, fellow Netflix enthusiasts! Get ready for some heartwarming news. Netflix is expanding the beloved To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movie franchise with a brand new spinoff series called XO, Kitty. Based on Jenny Han’s YA book series, this 10-episode show dives into the world of Kitty Song Covey, the spirited younger sister of the franchise’s main character, Laura Jean.

Kitty played a vital role in bringing Laura Jean and her crush, Peter Kavinsky, together in the first place. Now, it’s Kitty’s turn to shine as a vibrant 16-year-old with a story of her own. I must confess, even though I might not fit the target demographic, these movies have always been a breath of fresh air for me. Netflix never fails to deliver that much-needed dose of positivity and uplifting content.

Speaking as a self-professed softie, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming release of XO, Kitty. The series, produced by Awesomeness Studios and ACE Entertainment, features Anna Cathcart reprising her role as Kitty. She’s ready to take the spotlight and leave her mark on the world. Co-showrunner Sascha Rothchild aptly describes Kitty as “stepping into the fore” and carrying the baton from Lara Jean, as revealed in a promotional interview with Netflix.

Get your calendars out because XO, Kitty arrives on Netflix on May 18. Trust me, you won’t want to miss this delightful continuation of the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before universe. Stay tuned for the release date, trailer, and more exciting updates. It’s time for Kitty to shine!

In terms of the storyline, Kitty embarks on a new adventure by leaving her home in Portland, Oregon, to attend the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS), the same school her mother attended. Interestingly, Kitty’s long-term boyfriend, Dae (played by Minyeong Choi), also happens to be a student at KISS. Throughout her journey, Kitty discovers that managing relationships, such as encouraging her sister to pursue a romantic connection, is much simpler when her own heart isn’t at stake.

Co-showrunner Jenny Han explains that XO, Kitty truly revolves around Kitty’s narrative, which motivated the decision to set the story in a different location. By doing so, viewers won’t be preoccupied with wondering about Lara Jean’s whereabouts if they were to see the familiar Covey house or their high school in Portland.

To enhance the viewing experience, each episode of XO, Kitty has a runtime of 30 minutes. This shorter format ensures a more streamlined and binge-worthy show, without feeling like you’re slogging through a lengthy release. I can certainly relate to the time constraints we often face with numerous new TV series on Netflix. Who has the luxury of time these days, right?
