Apple’s Future Plans: 42-Inch OLED Display, Foldable iPad, and More Revealed in Leaked Report

A recent report sheds light on Apple’s plans for the future of its display technology. According to the Omdia report, Apple is planning to transition from its current screen technology to OLED and increase shipments of OLED products from approximately 9.7 million units in 2022 to over 70 million units in 2028. This shift will be facilitated by the adoption of OLED technology in upcoming iPad, MacBook, and monitor models.

The report also supports previous rumors about Apple’s plans, such as the release of OLED iPad Pros in 2024. However, there seems to be a contradiction regarding MacBook models. While some speculate that the MacBook Air will adopt OLED technology in 2024, Omdia suggests that Apple will reserve this display for their high-end MacBook Pro models in 2026. In addition, the report hints at the possible release of a foldable iPad and external monitors with up to 42-inch displays.

Overall, Apple’s plans for their display technology appear to be ambitious and forward-thinking, with a significant shift toward OLED technology in the coming years.

Reports suggest that Samsung is currently in the early stages of developing a special OLED technology for the 2026 MacBook Pro, which will feature the eighth generation of this panel. The upcoming iPad Pro, on the other hand, is expected to use the sixth generation technology. There have also been rumors of a 20-inch foldable iPad that could be released in 2026. While it is unclear whether the device will run on iPadOS or macOS, it is interesting to note that it is still on Apple’s roadmap.

The Omdia report also provides insight into Apple’s plans for external monitors. It is speculated that Apple may release a new Pro Display XDR with QD OLED or WOLED technology around 2026. While it is unclear which device will feature this technology, the report suggests that Apple will be transitioning from miniLED to OLED displays. Additionally, the company is said to be working on a massive 42-inch external monitor, which could be released by 2027. The report states that in 2027, Apple will also start using QD-OLED and/or WOLED displays for its 32″ and 42″ iMac monitors.

It remains to be seen how Apple will transition from LCD and miniLED to OLED, but it is clear that the next few years will be interesting for Apple’s display technology.
