Everything You Need To Know About 5G iPhones
|5G is the most talked-about upgrade to mobile networks in years. There have been many controversies surrounding the 5G network one major controversy is the network being the major cause of the World dreaded Covid-19 virus which led to the mass destruction of many network mast in several countries of the world. Though, research and technology have proved this rumor as baseless and false.
In stark contrast to many other tech companies, Apple has never had an overriding obsession with being the first company to bring a product or high-end technology to market. Probably because they know the value and worth of their products. That is, consistency to their product strategy to being the best in the technology market.
We know 5G speeds are cool and help you find things online super fast, but what good can 5G do you if you don’t have a device that supports it? For this very reason, Apple wasn’t exactly in a rush to roll out new iPhone models with support for 5G connectivity and took the position that introducing 5G devices without a sufficient amount of 5G coverage from carriers served no purpose.
If you want an iPhone that’ll let you navigate the digital universe with 5G speeds, you’ll need one of these 5G-equipped iPhone models:
- iPhone 12
- iPhone 12 mini
- iPhone 12 Pro
- iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 13
- iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 13 Pro
- iPhone 13 Pro Max
You won’t be able to access 5G with any of the previous models, even if you have a network provider that supports 5G.
The improved data speeds enabled by 5G are certainly welcome but there are some downsides to 5G worth mentioning as well. Aside from the fact that cellular range with 5G is super relative to 4G, iPhones with 5G chipsets churn through battery life at a much faster clip. Suffice it to say, if your daily usage habits don’t exactly require blazing-fast connectivity, you might be better off switching 5G off completely to prioritize battery life.
We will all agree that the general problem associated with the iPhone series is battery life even Apple itself concedes this point which is why the company last year introduced a feature in its iPhone series starting with the iPhone 12 called “Smart Data Mode”. This automatic feature allows your iPhone to switch between 4G and 5G depending on which apps are currently running. So if you’re just skimming through your Facebook home page, you’ll likely be content with 4G. But if you’re all of a sudden interested in watching some high-quality Netflix or YouTube content, your iPhone will automatically switch to 5G. It’s a clever solution, to be sure, but if battery life is hugely important to you, you may want to switch off 5G altogether and only turn it on in situations where you really need it.
