A recent story suggests that Netflix and PlayStation could partner on gaming
|Video game ideas were formally announced by Netflix during its most recent quarterly earnings conference.
After Bloomberg reported that the business hired former EA and Facebook employee Mike Verdu to be the vice president of game development, rumors about Netflix producing games began to circulate earlier this month.
Then, Netflix acknowledged that rumor and disclosed that it would soon begin creating mobile games for users.
Although Netflix’s long-term ambitions are unclear, a recent leak raises the possibility that a partnership with PlayStation might be on the table.
Collaboration between Netflix and PlayStation makes sense.
There are grounds for anticipating a Netflix and PlayStation collaboration.
In April, Sony and Netflix agreed to a five-year contract that grants Netflix exclusive rights to stream Sony movies after they are released in cinemas and on demand.
This applies to forthcoming films like Uncharted, Morbius, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2.
Already set to collaborate for many more years are Sony and Netflix.
Why not extend that alliance to video games?
We do know that Netflix will not split its gaming endeavor from its streaming business.
In a Q&A this week, Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings stated, “We’re a one-product company.”
When games do come out, they’ll be a standard component of your membership.
While initially concentrating on mobile games, the business made it clear that any devices that support the service, including gaming consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X, would soon be able to provide games.
