Resetting Your AirPods: A Comprehensive Guide

Due to issues, delays, or the desire to gift your AirPods or AirPods Pro to someone else, you may occasionally need to factory reset the wireless earbuds. It’s simple to factory reset your AirPods if you’re experiencing connectivity, charging, or audio difficulties.

How to do an AirPods or AirPods Pro factory reset

To reset your AirPods and connect them to a new device, follow these steps:

  1. Place your AirPods in their charging case and close the lid.
    Wait for 30 seconds.
    2. Open the lid of your charging case and put your AirPods in your ears.
    3. Go to Settings > Bluetooth or Settings > [your AirPods] on your device.
    4. If your AirPods are connected, tap the More Info button next to your AirPods, then tap Forget This Device, and confirm.
    5. If your AirPods are not connected, proceed to the next step.
    6. Keep the lid of your charging case open and put your AirPods in the case.
    7. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber and then white.

Place your AirPods near your iPhone or iPad with the lid open and follow the instructions on your device’s screen to reconnect your AirPods.
Note that AirPods can only be associated with one Apple ID at a time. If you want to use AirPods that someone else has used before, they need to remove the AirPods from their Apple ID first.
It is important to note that removing AirPods or AirPods Pro from an Apple ID will also remove them from any other devices associated with that Apple ID.

How to delete Apple ID from AirPods or AirPods Pro

To remove AirPods or AirPods Pro from an Apple ID, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Find My app on your iOS device or go to iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
    2. If you’re using the Find My app, tap the Items tab or Devices tab at the bottom of the screen. If you’re using iCloud.com, click on the Find My iPhone icon and select your AirPods or AirPods Pro from the list of devices.
    3. Select the AirPods or AirPods Pro you want to remove from your Apple ID.
    4. Swipe up on the handle at the bottom of the screen to reveal additional options.
    5. Tap Remove Item or Remove This Device.
    6. Tap Remove again to confirm that you want to remove the AirPods or AirPods Pro from your Apple ID.

Once you’ve completed these steps, your AirPods or AirPods Pro will no longer be associated with your Apple ID. This means that they will no longer appear in the Find My app or iCloud.com, and they will not be able to be tracked or located using Find Me.
