The Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV will no longer be manufactured by GM beyond 2023

General Motors has said the manufacture of the Chevy EV and EUV will cease at the end of 2023. On the company’s Q1 2023 earnings call, GM CEO Mary Barra announced the termination of the manufacturing of the reasonably priced EV.

Chevy has opted to employ the production resources it had for the Bolt EV and EUV for upcoming electric truck manufacturing rather than continuing with those models. While the Bolt EV was a “great technological success and the first cheap EV,” Cody Williams, senior manager for communications at Chevy, stated in a statement that it will be ceasing manufacturing later this year.

The introduction of the Chevy Bolt EV, which was the first cheap EV and a significant technological accomplishment, inaugurated GM’s all-electric future. Chevy stated that Bolt EV and EUV manufacturing will stop this year as the company expands its EV portfolio with the Ultium platform and as work on the Orion Township, Michigan, assembly facility continues in anticipation of the start of battery electric truck production in 2024.

It is a tremendous pity that Chevy is ceasing manufacture of the Bolt EV and EUV because they were among the most reasonably priced electric vehicles available. Purchasing a Chevrolet Bolt EV or EUV with a starting price of about $24,000 and eligibility for the federal EV tax credit might wind up saving you money.

That’s not to suggest that other automakers aren’t vying for the market for inexpensive EVs. Even Tesla plans to deliver a next-generation electric car that may sell for as little as $25,000, despite the fact that its cars haven’t yet dipped below the $35,000 starting price for a new model.
